About Me

I wear sensible shoes

I used to love wearing heels all the time, and then I started getting terrible foot pain all the time. I visited my podiatrist, and she showed me how much damage I was doing to my feet. She showed me how much better my feet would be able to react if I wore shoes with proper arch support and convinced me to try some sensible shoes. It made such a difference. My boyfriend says I'm a whole new person - a new person who doesn't complain about her aching feet all day long. Now I proudly wear sensible shoes and enjoy my life!

Three Benefits of Custom-Made Orthotics

by Jordan Fernandez

Not everyone is born with perfect feet. Even if you have the best feet, physical trauma and illness can damage them, leading to pain. Specific shoe designs, sports, and even chronic conditions like diabetes can alter the healthy state of your foot and cause your feet to hurt when you walk.

That is why orthotics are so valuable. These are devices worn inside shoes to support the feet and help correct problems with walking. They can be custom-made or off-the-shelf. While custom-made orthotics may cost slightly more, they are of much better quality than those you can get at a shop.

Custom-made orthotics are specifically designed to fit your feet. They are made from a mould of your feet to support the arch of your foot and relieve pressure on the foot, ankle, and lower leg.

Here are a few significant benefits of custom-made orthotics.

Pain relief

Walking is a daily activity, and it shouldn't have to be torture every time you need to visit the kitchen or the washroom to relieve yourself. Most of this pain comes from poor mechanical support to your feet as a result of damage to the usual form of your feet. Some familiar problems include flat feet, plantar fasciitis, bunions, high arches and hammertoes.

With these common foot problems, walking short distances can even generate excruciating pain, causing difficulty in daily life. With custom-made orthotics, your podiatrist can help provide better support to your feet, significantly reducing or completely eradicating the pain in your feet, leading to a better quality of life.

Preventing injury

Walking is low-impact, but that doesn't mean it can't lead to injuries. In fact, most common running injuries result from poor form while walking. This can be something as simple as overpronation, when your feet roll inward while you're walking, or supination, when your feet move outward.

These problems can lead to shin splints, Achilles tendonitis, and stress fractures. Custom-made orthotics can help correct your form while walking, preventing these injuries from happening in the first place.

They last longer

Custom-made orthotics are made to last. These orthotics are made from quality materials that will hold up to wear and tear caused by regular use. They're also made to fit your feet perfectly, so they won't rub against your feet and cause blisters or other problems.

On the other hand, off-the-shelf orthotics are made from lower-quality materials and are often ill-fitting, leading to a shorter lifespan. They can also be uncomfortable.

Custom orthotics are, therefore, the best choice if you are looking for a product that will serve you effectively for a long time, saving you a lot of hard-earned money. For more information on orthotics, contact a professional near you.
